My parents quit almost a year ago and my dad still complains about not getting enough air, so l am guessing it is normal.

l have not ever smoked but l think l can help. It is good that you quit, but bad that you ever started. Your lungs are permenatly damaged, but your doctor may know a way to get that feeling to go away.

Hope l helped!

When u stop smoking:
In 20 minutes ur blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in ur blood stream will drop by half, & oxygen levels will return to normal.
In 48 hours ur chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left ur body. Your sense of taste & smell will return to a normal level.
In 72 hours ur bronchial tubes will relax, & ur energy levels will increase.
In 2 weeks ur circulation will increase, & it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
In three to nine months coughs, wheezing & breathing problems will dissipate as ur lung capacity improves by 10%.
In 1 year ur risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
In 5 years ur risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
In 10 years ur risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
In 15 years ur risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

Have u smoked over 5 years? If so, u may have emphysema.

The one person answered this pretty good but in case that was too much to read here is the highlight.. You damaged your lungs over all the years you smoked and you can not expect to be back to 100% instantly. It takes time to undo that damage just like it took time for it to occur. If it gets worse or after a few months your still feeling like this, see your doc, you may need some oxygen.
