Is there anything we can do to fix it, and how can l suggest nicely that he does something? He is very defensive if l have ever said anything about it eg it is healthier to breathe through your nose and he should try. In fact he argues with me and says there is nothing wrong with it. But to be honest, l am finding it more and more off-putting and find it hard to look at him when he is breathing with his mouth open.

He did not do this before the marriage? l would not be able to stand it either.

this sounds stupid but get some nasal strips brands such as TopCare or Breathe Right.

leave them sitting somewhere in the bathroom. if he asks what they r for tell him they help u sleep better. they work & there no placebo

if he uses them, it automatically opens up his nasal passages. allowing him to breathe regularly.

i am a *mouth breather too. l mumble & have trouble breathing through my nose. l wear these bad boys then voila!

maybe your husband is nose is not clear or smooth.you should cheak it .

Breathing through the mouth is not just a bad habit, as most people think. Its a symptom of a problem in his nose or throat.
Depending on when he started doing this & other associated symptoms, there can be a wide range of problems, from a deviated nasal septum to a sinus polyp, to benign growths such as lipomas, papillomas, hamartomas, rhinosporodiosis, tuberculosis, angiofibroma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, adenoid hypertrophy, choanal atresia..its endless.
You have to try & convince him to see an ENT surgeon soon. Do not be judgemental.its not a habit people get because its pleasurable. Its due to some disease. Get a friend or another family member whom he listens to, to explain the situation. All of the above conditions can be treated, & mmodern ENT relies heavily on endoscopic surgeries, so ur husband will not lose more than a day if he chooses to get the surgeries done. Needless to say, generally these surgeries r very safe & painless.
But it is for u to gently try & get him to the doctor

he has flu or asthma problem or looks to me his nose remain most of the time closed, you can ask any local doctor for further treatment, take him few doses of avil tablet see whether it is working or not

Eeewww l hate this too. It is even harder when it is a loved one & ur around them all the time. He should not have been defensive though! Because telling someone to stop a natural thing is hard enough to do. And l can not believe he argued with you, because its not something to argue about but something to compromise on & find a solution. Thats what l did with my family & they were very understanding. l definitely sympathize with u though.

He obviously can not breath through his mouth, which means it could be something medical like deviated septum or something. Good luck hun.
