hi could anyone help my son has just started having panic attacks and l do not know how to help him apart from the paper bag.hes 16 physically fit well liked (not being bullied etc).they are very violent attacks and hes had 3 in four days.hes really drained afterwards and now its affecting his collage is there anything l can do for him. l know the trigger(g/friend trouble) but all the right words do not help. any help would be really appreciated thanks thanks to all who have replied to my question.my son went to docs didnt really say anything,these attacks can last nearly an hr will take him back thanks

the doctors are the best result that'ss what l did, l wasdiagnosedd withAnxietyy and depression at 15 yrs old. The doctor gave me some breathing exercises to try whilst having an attack and they really help.Im now in control of my panic attacks. l hope your son is ok, And his panic attacks start to stop soon. Hi there is no need to worry. Panic attacks r very common & l have suffered with them for about 25 years. There is usually an underlying cause as well as one or more triggers. My underlying cause used to be a totally irrational fear of vomiting; it has now changed to an equally irrational fear of fainting in public! My panic attacks always centred around a fear of losing control in public.
There r many ways to treat panic attacks. One of the best is controlled breathing techniques. Rebreathing into a paper bag or closing one nostril with ur finger & breathing in & holding ur breathe while counting to 10 is another. It is important to tell ur son that his body cannot sustain a full panic attack for more than a minute or so at most, so although panic attacks r not pleasant they do quickly subside. There r also a lot of helpful books available.
l have found that the only way to permanently control my panic attacks is by taking a prescribed drug called Paroxetine. l would try controlled breathing techniques & lots of reassurance & if that fails to control them then a trip to the doctor & possibly Paroxetine as a last resort.

l know how your son must be suffering. l had them about 6 yrs ago,the Doctor put me on a course of Diazapam (About 3wks) Ive had none since. The worst part used to be living in fear of the next one! l also found exercise was a great help He must get medical help. It can be cured. Hope this has helped.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes ur Serotonin production to be low; when ur Serotonin level is low, u r more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSR l - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level. But there r natural ways to do it without medication. There is this strange herb called ''St John is Wort'' - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only & ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety & panic-attacks as St John is Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if ur Serotonin is balanced. u have that ''learned behavior'' in ur mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that u can use without CBT will be Distraction.
