l sleep 7.5 hours to 8 hours a night. l constantly feel tired threw the day. l am not alert and focus also, l try to concentrate but it does not seem to work. l am some times tired in class and l cant follow what the class is doing, its not that l do not get the information its because l feel sluggish. Its affecting me because l feel so tired that l do not wanna make an effort to socialize with people thusthis is making me a hermit.l remember mydreams almost every night and l have notice that the nights when l dream l feel like l have not gotten enough sleep. It some times feels like my body is selfish because the more l sleep l still feel tired threw the day.l can sleep for 12 hours and still feel tired in the afternoon . this is affecting me with my learning in school and socializing . since l feel it has become a problem, l started using caffeine to keep me up.l think l am becoming depress because l am always feeling tired, my school work is piling up and l feel lonely l do not care about my appearance, l feel like l do not care about things , like things do not matter any more. So what can l do to stop this from happening? What do you think l have? l do not know if you need to know this information but l am a 17 year old female. Please l wanna function like a normal human being where l sleep at night and feel well rested in the morning and therefore l can do my daily tasks with out a problem.

Hi Betsy,

l used to feel the same way. My story: l am a 44 YO male living in Vancouver, WA. l was diagnosed with diabetes I l in 1998 after gaining about 60 pounds in a short period of time. One of the downfalls from gaining weight is sleep apnea. l did a google search & found this site for u & ur parents to learn more about sleep apnea: http://sleepapnea.org/info/patient.html l have been using a CPAP machine for about 3.5 years now & my wife just started using one for about a month now. We both r no longer feeling lethargic all day like we used to. This may or may not be ur answer but l would recommend discussing this with ur doctor & see if u can get a pulse oximeter test done. This is painless & is an evaluation of ur oxygen level during ur sleep overnight. You just clamp on a little testing device on ur finger overnight as u sleep & then the lab evaluates ur sleep. In a week or two u will know if u qualify for further testing. This would be another overnight test but it would be at a sleep study center. They put electrodes on ur scalp & chest & monitor ur sleep & wake u in the middle of the night & put a cpap machine on based on the first half of ur sleep. Then u have another couple of appointments to get ur cpap machine fitted to u & u no longer r miserably tired all day. Good luck, please feel free to email me the results. donjstice.com or donndarcycomcast.net.
