My employer just announced that all employees would be required to get a TB test.Because of a previous positive test, l cannot get the arm test, but must get a chest x-ray, which my employer said they would not pay for.Is it legal for them to require medical testing without notice or compensation?

My school did TB tests, but we did not pay for them.

because of your previous positive, yes. It is up to you to get an annual chest xray, regardless of who employs you, but you cannot maintain employment without the testing anyway. You will have to bite the bullet on this one. They are not responsible for you having a positive skin test, nor or they responsible for your possible exposure, so why should they be responsible for your chest xray?

Because there was a previous positive case of it then yes they can legally make u get tested.
l dont know ur local laws so Im not sure if they r responsible for paying for it.
in Michigan my ex girlfriend applied for a job watching children & her employer paid for the test because she had to take the test.
Worst case scenario u pay for the TB test & then keep ur receipts.
When its time to do ur taxes just claim the fee as an unreimbursed work expense which u can do in any state.
You will claim this on ur federal tax return & more than likely get a discount on ur federal income tax.

l am a radiological technologist, and l have never done a chest x-ray to check for TB for employment reasons, which the employee had to pay for. The employer always pays for these. l have never had a patient pay out of pocket for TB screening. Call your county is health department (you can find the phone number in the front of your local phone book) and talk with them.
