l can not figure out what illness l have.This is new to me.l am generally healthy, maybe get a cold once or twice a year.For the past 4 (going on 5) weeks now l have been coughing like crazy.Productive coughing, but annoying.Cough attacks randomly at night and almost hourly throughout the day.Swollen glands, a bit of an ''out of it'' feeling, and tight chest/short breath, but no other symptoms... no stuffy head, nose, or ears.l went to the doctor 7 days ago and she listened to my lungs and said they are mostly clear and gave me an inhaler (ProAir), which l swear makes me cough more.She said it is most likely a viral infection and it just has to run its course.l have to keep cough-drops in my mouth ALL the time.l am sooooo sick of cough drops!!Has anyone experienced anything like this?This seems way too long and l do not feel like l am getting better or coughing less.Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions, thoughts!
l did just start blood pressure medicine about 2 weeks before this all started and then discontinued it.Why do you ask?Are they related?
Interesting... l had started Lisinopril also before all of this started.l have never been on Blood Pressure medicine prior.l stopped it about 2 weeks ago.l hope this goes away soon!Thanks for the info!
Yes, swollen glands in the neck.Still feel the same as when l posted the original message.l made another doctor is appt for Tuesday if it is still hanging around.This is just crazy.
Thanks everyone for the .They are all good feedback.Just as a followup, It was not getting better so l went to a Urgent Care Doctor after work.Thank Goodness l did!Not only do l have Strep Throat.The X-Rays showed l have Pneumonia.The doctor said l was about 2 weeks away form being in a hospital... gave me 2 shots and 3 prescriptions.I am glad l know what it is now!Moral of the story, if you have anything like this, go to the doctor after 10 days and do not be scared to get a 2nd opinion.l am extremely thankful that l went to the 2nd doctor.l am dropping my 1st doctor who told me to ''Wait it out'' 10 days ago.Thanks again for the feedback.

are you on high blood pressure medicine?

One of the side effects of high blood pressure medicine is coughing. l was on lisinopril and starting coughing alot. It got so bad (after a month) that l started throwing up from choking. l finally went to my dr and he took me off the pill. Within 24 hours the coughing stopped and has not returned.

l had this terrible hacking weezing cough for about 4 months. l had xrays and nothing showed. l got it around the time when this bug was going around that gave a bad cough but it was supposed to last for a month at most.

It went away eventually. Go to a walk in clinic or your family doctor and get an xray and a throat swab.

Get a PPD test to rule out TB! You can get them free at the health department.

a bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer
pain in the chest
coughing up blood or sputum (phlegm from deep inside the lungs)

Other symptoms of active TB disease are

weakness or fatigue
weight loss
no appetite
chills
fever
sweating at night

l have mild asthama. And tend to get acute bronchitis when exposed to upper respitory viruses.

The inhaler is suppose to help you cough up congestion in your chest and to help in swelling in your airways.

I've been having similar problems, and the research I've been doing shows that l might have TB (tuberculosis). l have not told anyone, and l kinda freaks me out to think about it. l am only thirteen, so there is really nothing l can do about it ( l could tell my parents, but l do not feel like it). You should go see a doctor though.

The blood pressure medication caught my attention. l am going through the same sort of thing - coughing all night & sucking on cough lollies. My doctor is lowering my blood pressure medication for 2 weeks. l was on Coversyl first & now on Avapro. She also suggested it could be reflux or a lung disorder, but there r so many things associated with a bad cough. l am always on a lookout for TB because l am a carrier; mum & dad had it after the war. The doc & l r sorting out my problem through elimination. She gave me some codeine tablets that stop the cough at night, so l do not have to worry about choking on cough lollies. l hope u r feeling better by now - those swollen glands (in the neck?) indicate a respiratory infection of some sort.
