What membranes are involved in the conditon pleurisy

Pleurisy, also known as pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleura, the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs. Pleurisy has a variety of infectious and non-infectious causes. Pleurisy can cause painful respiration (also called pleuritic chest pain) and other signs and symptoms, some of which may remain long after the pleurisy has gone away.

Pleuritis refers to an inflammation of the membranes that surround the lung (known as pleura). There are 2 membranes/pleura. The lungs are surrounded by a thin, film-like membrane called the visceral pleura. The chest wall is lined with a second membrane called the parietal pleura. The two membranes remain in contact with one another, being separated only by a thin layer of fluid.
