If you break your ribs, and your broken ribs puncture one of your lungs, are you likely to get a tension pneumothorax? Or could you just get a simple pneumothorax?

l have been in the field of radiology for 29 years
and have x-rayed patients for various pneumos.
One girl had spontaneous collapse of the lung.
Some were so small it was very difficult to see.
Then u can see what 4-5 rib fractures on one side do to the body - it is known as a flail chest.

Your question about a rib fracture causing a tension or simple pneumothorax would be a tension pnuemothorax. Just read more & research more (two sites below) & give
