My asthma is not been very well controlled and my dr didnt seem to be doing much.So l went to an Asthma & Allergy clinic today they tested me for allergies and l found out Iam allergic to all types of grass most trees,cats,dogs,dust mites etc.... yeah like everything it seems.

Well one of the drugs she wanna put me on is symbicort but when l looked at the insert l was shocked l think (possible death) is mentioned like at least 5 tiimes.So iam a little freaked out l must say

Newer medications like symbicort r aggressively advertised to the public, & many people specifically ask for them because they erroneously think that these medications r better / more effective. But only time can really prove how tried & true these medications can be. The older meds r more reliable in the sense that their side effect profiles r more accurate; they r better known. Having said that, if ur physician prescribed Symbicort for you, he / she must have considered all options & decided this would be best for you. If u doubt it, do not hesitate to ask ur physician about the medication side effect profiles & other options available to you. Also, practically every medication nowadays says death or sudden death is a side effect--it is not really a side effect. During the clinical trial, patients on these medications were studied, & some died, perhaps of other causes, but the exact cause could not be determined, so it is included as a ''side effect.'' It is included for legal reasons.

death is gonna happen no matter what. your odds of dying prematurely increase if you let your asthma symptoms go untreated -dying while gasping for breath is not a peaceful death!! Symbicort is a very effective medication that can control asthma symptoms and decrease your need for albuterol (rescue inhaler). make a list of your concerns and return to the specialist. you need to fully understand the meds & your disease in order to treat it effectively.

Symbicort is an expensive medication just as Advair is. They r both corticosteroids with nasty side effects which r totally scarey.

But if ur asthma has not been well controlled on previous medications u may be like me & have to deal with the side effects of the steroids.

Be in continuous contact with ur doctor, take all the necessary blood draws & heart check ups while taking these medications.

l hate the side effects, but like breathing freely!!! COPD is the result of uncontrolled asthma!! It hurts a lot.

Most times when symbicort is related to death, it is because someone misuses it. Symbicort is a preventative inhaler.. it is used to help prevent asthma issues. Most people opt to take it in the morning when they wake up & again when they go to bed at night. So in between this period, if an asthma episode were to happen, then u should use a rescue inhaler such as albuterol, combivent, etc. Well.. some people use their symbicort instead when an asthma attack occurs. Symbicort is not a fast acting inhaler, therefore it takes a long time to act & does not give relief to asthma. Without relief, the ariways can close up & the person cannot breathe, therefore resulting in death. So, just make sure that u have a rescue inhaler with u at all times. But from what l hear from most of my patients is that after they start taking symbicort, they usually do not have to use their rescue inhalers any longer. Their asthma is now well controlled.

Symbicort is two drugs ... consisting of Budesonide, which is a steroid that reduces inflammation in the body... secondly .

Formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways to improve breathing.

Symbicort is used to prevent bronchospasm in people with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Most issues related to death r from the long-acting bronchodilator . & most deaths related to this have been in the African-American patient population that of which is poorly understood ...

Symbicort is a long acting medication. it takes up to 15 min to start working, in other words it is a maintenance drug. u should always use ur fast acting inhaler when u have an attack.that is where the deaths came in. You could also ask the Dr about using a Nebulizer & the medication used. the results will last longer than the inhalers.
Do not worry about death. take the Symbicort as directed & stay on the other inhalers. You r on other medication for ur Asthma?

l am asthmatic too, ventolin and asthalin pumps dont work on me, to give you an idea of the status of my asthma. l want lead you to a site where you can check on this medicine it is WebMd. look it up. Try your best to manage without using a nebuliser, if you use it, you will be hung on it for life.
